Whoo hoo! Eurotrip!
So I took the 6 am flight on Delta from San Jose through Atlanta. It’s now 7 am in London though technically still Tues late at night in California still. Luckily, I never get hit with jetlag. Both legs of my flight were great. On the 1st leg, I sat next to a guy from Santa Cruz. He was going to Boston with his girlfriend to visit her parents for the first time. He backpacked around London, Ireland, and Scotland with a buddy 3 years ago and we talked a lot about traveling around. 2nd leg was next to an English teacher from Tennessee going to visit Stratford upon Avon for Shakespeare. Saw “17 again” with Matthew Perry which was a good movie, fun yet had a thought provoking theme.
The hostel in London was fine and filled with young people. I immediately went with a group from the hostel to the free walking tour. These tours are put on by local young university students which make them interesting and fun. Made a few friends including Luke and Liz from Australia. After walking around town and seeing several palaces and other monuments, the tour ended. Luke and I decided to go back to the national gallery and explore the great artwork from 1200 to 1900 including “Virgin and Child” by Da Vinci and “Sunflowers” by Van Gogh.
For dinner, I dropped by a local café and had fish and chips. I figured it was British. It’s still not very good in Britain. I don’t recommend it.
That night, I went to the Pub Crawl with Luke and met a lot of new people including April from Cali, Jane from Ottawa, and Alan from Cali. We hit 5 bars and danced for hours at the last one and was out till 3 am or so. All in all a good start to the trip.
